I don’t know whether DMHs have ever come up with a mission statement, or would even want to, but if we were to have one, it might be congruent with what Loon Echo believes:
“At LELT, we believe land conservation can support a future with healthy and connected ecosystems, clean water, access to outdoor spaces for everyone and forests that are managed to store carbon and fight climate change. We aim to cultivate relationships with each other and the world around us through free community events and programs in addition to supporting community-led planning efforts throughout the Lake Region.”
Trek for the Trails: Here is your chance to support our friends at Loon Echo Land Trust
Loon Echo Land Trust’s biggest fund raiser of the year starts September 1, 2025.
This fundraiser was designed with the Denmark Mountain Hikers in mind. You don’t have to do anything different except register and let them know how far you’ve hiked For every mile you hike, (ride or paddle too), the Norway Bank will donate a dollar to Loon Echo. [I don’t know that this is actually fair…. one can coer miles a lot easier on a bicycle than trudging uphill around here.]
Really. It’s that simple.

Support Loon Echo Land Trust by participating in this project. The Trek is one of the best ways to celebrate and give back to the trails you love. Think Pleasant Mountain, Baldpate and the many other local trails that Loon Echo maintains. An excuse to put on your boots this morning and go for a hike.
The 2025 Trek for the Trails doesn’t have a registration fee. Everyone can participate, l – just people getting outside, on their own time, can help support LELT.
So how does the event raise money for the trails? LELT receives $1 from local business sponsors for each mile walked, biked, rolled, or hiked during this two month long, community-wide celebration. Funds will go directly to building and maintaining our Lake Region trails system. Everyone who signs up for the Trek is entered into a raffle to win great prizes from local businesses including day passes to Pleasant Mountain Ski area.
Trek for the Trails is Loon Echo Land Trust’s largest annual fundraising event. Funds raised from the Trek help Loon Echo steward over 9,300 acres of land and 35+ miles of trail in the Lake Region. The 2025 Trek for the Trails is presented by Norway Savings Bank.
This is the perfect excuse to invite friends and family members on our Friday Denmark Hikers outings. For every mile they hike they can funnel a dollar from Norway Bank into Loon Echo’s accounts.
How does it work?
1. Local businesses contribute to our Trek for the Trails Challenge Community Match Pool.
2. You register for the Trek on the Pledge-It platform.
3. Participants run, bike, roll, swim, paddle, hike or walk on outside — any trail, any time between September 1st and October 31st, 2025. Note: You can Trek anywhere you are, you don’t have to be local to the Lake Region to participate!
4. Log your miles on your Pledge-It page.
5. LELT gets $1 from the match pool for every mile logged.
6. The match pool is currently $5,000! We need your help to make sure we get all of those funds to put right back into your beloved trails. We can do this!
$1 for 1 mile. It’s that easy.
Want to go the “extra mile?”
Make your miles go further by raising money from family and friends. All Trekkers who fundraise will receive an extra raffle ticket for each $50 raised. Fundraising from family and friends is easy and a shareable page will be created for you when you register.
