DMH Hiker Responsibilities

*  Eat a good breakfast the morning of a hike.

*  Bring adequate food, snacks and hydration for the hike.

*  Carry the “ten essentials” for a hike in youe backpack.

  1. Map, compass, GPS etc.
  2. Head protection – (hat, skull cap, etc.)
  3. Extra clothing – (rain gear, season appropriate jacket, etc.)
  4. Headlamp or flashlight
  5. First aid kit
  6. Fire starter – (matches, lighter etc.)
  7. Knife or all purpose tool
  8. Extra food – (energy bars or chews)
  9. Hydration – ( 1 liter or 32 oz for every 2 hours on trail)
  10. Emergency Shelter
