Trail Report:

Sebago Cove Forest: Loon Echo Land Trust’s newest trail

October 31, 2025

This morning as our scheduled hike to Province Pond had been cancelled, Andy Bradford and I loaded my dogs into the car and drove a few minutes down King’s Hill Road, turned left onto River Road, which changed to Burnell road, and almost immediately found ourselves parked in the lot for Loon Echo’s newly conserved area called Sebago Cove Forest.  From there a lovely trail leads down to the cove forms a small loop and then returns one back to the parking lot.

Some of the trail is newly constructed, some is older forest road that feels as if it might actually be reclaimed railroad track as it was so level and solidly constructed. The out and back loop leads down to the water.
We chose to follow it counterclockwise to rejoin the forest road again and back to the lot.  As we walked I found myself hunting for other descriptive adjectives beside pleasant and lovely but those two terms work best for the hike. Thhe new trail was spongy undeerfoot. Boneless is that’s a word for soft trails. The returning loop follows alongside a small stream that meandered down to the cove.

The whole hike was just a pinch over two miles long. Neither of us thought to check the time so no idea how long it took.  Laminated maps are posted along the trail with those “You are Here” arrows.  Blue trail markers were evenly placed along the route.  Everything about the experience was pleasant.  This was a nice easy hike for today.  It might make for an interesting but still easy snowshoe early next year.   Lovely and pleasant is how i would describe it.
