December 19 – Easy – Hawk Mountain (1,061 ft), Waterford, ME – 2.8 mi RT, 139 ft elevation gain. RT hiking time 2 hours. RT driving 1 hours.
Hike was switched from Albany Mt because the road to the
Albany trailhead is not plowed.
Meet at the Denmark church at 8:30 a.m. Hawk Mountain is an easy, short hike that we have climbed many times. The Western Foothills Land Trust has several trails for us to explore and we will have several loop trails to start and finish from the new parking lot on Hawk Mt Road. Expect this hike to be a microspike one. Jeff will not be at the church for this hike.
Directions to the Trailhead: Take Maine Routes 35 and 37 north to South Waterford, then take a right onto Mill Hill Road. Shortly thereafter, take a right onto Hawk Mountain Road. Soon after it becomes a dirt road, the Hawk Mountain Trail trailhead will be on the right with a large parking area. The parking lot is plowed in winter.
