Little Deer Hill: April 10th

3 May – Easy –  Little Deer Hill (1,367 ft), Evans Notch, ME.  3.3 mi RT, 837 ft of elevation gain.  RT hiking 3 hours.  RT driving 1.5 hours.

Meet at the Denmark church at 8:30 am. We last hiked Deer Hill in May 2024. It is a favorite hike.  We will follow the trail from Shell Pond Road along the Cold River to the dam, then climb Little Deer Hill. From the summit we can take the Frost and Ledges Trail that loops around the back of the mountain and ends up back at the dam.

Directions to northern trailhead:  Chester Dam can be approached from Shell Pond Road via the Leach Link Trail.  This trail begins just east of a bridge over the Cold River and runs along the river 1.2 miles to the dam where the trail to Little Deer Hill begins.  In times of high river flows this would be a safer alternative to trying to cross the dam.
