This week’s hike:
Friday August 21– Easy – Mountain Pond (1,650 ft), Jackson, NH. 2.6 mi RT, 78 ft. elevation gain. RT hiking 2.0 hours. RT driving 2 hours. (HL – Polly Lombardi)
Meet at the Denmark Church at 8:30 AM and then again at the Intervale Scenic Vista at 3654 White Mountain Highway, situated just north of North Conway proper in Intervale, NH. We will organize a secondary carpool from there.
Trails End Ice Cream Shop sits directly across the highway from this scenic rest area and visitor center. For those driving all the way to the trailhead remember your park pass.
Hike Report. Caribou Loop Trail
Our group recently cancelled a planned hike up Caribou on a recent Friday as the forecast had suggested that the weather would be unseasonably, or unreasonably, warm. A smaller group of our hikers organized and made this hike on their own this past Wednesday, on August 19, and let us know about the fun we missed in this report and photos from Laura Sullivan:
“Great hike today on the Caribou loop trail.. in attendance was Doug Quist, Deb Coughlin, Janet Arens, Greg Dean, Robin, Jim and Me (aka Laura Sullivan). This loop trail had everything. a beautiful walk in the woods, gentle climb up until 1 mile to go then some definite elevation gain. The other side of the loop was a little crazy.. lots of wetness and mud, many moss covered wet rocks, and quite a few small creek crossings. My All trails gave us 7.20 miles,1979 ft of elevation and took us a little over 5 hours which includes our lunch at the top.. Hope to see you Friday.”
