Change for September 25 Hike
Polly discovered that parking is nonexistent at Chamberlain Ledge in Madison, NH. After some discussion on our recent Mountain Pond hike, the group decided to substitute Arethusa Falls for our September 25th hike.
September 25 – Moderate – Arethusa Falls (2,000 ft) Crawford Notch, NH – 3.0 miles RT, 900 ft elevation gain. RT hiking 2.5 hours. RT driving 3 hours.
Meet at the Denmark church at 8:30 am – Trailhead is on Arethusa Falls Road, a short paved access road off US-302 in Harts Location, about 10 minutes north of Bartlett and 25 minutes northwest of North Conway. Google Maps and the NH State Parks page both pin the trailhead correctly.
We are beginning to solicit suggestions for our fall hike schedule comprising the months of October, November, and December. If you have suggestions, please email them to Jeff Sturgis at jeffreysturgis54@gmail.com or mention them to anyone of our hike leaders over the month of September.
This week’s hike remains the same:
This Week’s Hike: August 28th, 2026
Douglas Mountain
Meet at the Denmark Church at 8:30 a.m. A close-to-home loop hike climbing the Scout Trail and descending the Ledges Trail, with nice views from the stone tower at the summit. There are some short steep pitches on ascent, ledges on descent. We last hiked this in Aug 2022. Room for several cars at the trailhead parking lot.
Directions – Follow Route 107 north from Baldwin or south from Bridgton. If coming from the north go through Center Sebago (town offices, fire station, church) and turn right (west) onto Dyke Mountain Road. At the top of the hill turn left onto Douglas Mountain road, and a short ways further turn left at the signs to the Douglas Mountain parking lot. Parking is $3.00 by the honor system, with a drop box at the parking lot. Please do not park along the side of the road, or at the trailhead for the Ledges and Woods trails.
